Application of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for the study of bentonite clay from the Alpoid deposit in the Republic of Azerbaijan

Keywords: deposits, bentonite clays, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface, XPS spectra, elemental composition.

Abstract

The elemental composition, chemical and electronic states of atoms on the surface of bentonite clays of the Alpoid deposit (Republic of Azerbaijan) were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. It is shown that the composition of the surface of nanoparticles is quite different from the composition of the bentonite material in the bulk. The research results confirm the prospects of studying the elemental composition of clay by the proposed methods.
